I would like to be able to choose an audio player other than the system one when playing music on my phone.

This is a nice idea, the developers will agree that it doesn't allow you to play playlists of mixed file types: the system player does not play flac files by default in earlier releases of android for example. We'll have a think about this.

I will like to see you give user functionalities to add channels for local TV and radio stations. I am waiting for a day I can cut cable/DirecTV, watching/listening live local TV/Radio news is only reason I am still subscribing the service.

I have been trying quite a number of Android control point and I have to say I like Skifta. It is simple and efficient. I also find it faster than Twonkymobile. It is however too slow to make the channels available (Soma fm).
The feature that is badly missing in my view is the dynamic playlist as it exists on many other control points. -

Hi CallofDuty - whats the issue you're having with the channels? If you want to start a new topic in the forums, or send a ticket to support@skifta.com, we may be able to assist.

As mentioned by others, I too would really like the ability to use the image viewer of my choice (as well as audio player..haven't really checked that out yet), so I can play animated .gifs etc., zoom/slideshow to my liking, and flick the photos back & forth. (I currently like to use QuickPic but it won't launch within Skifta)

Yeah, as an addendum to my previous post, I can play FLAC with the andless player, and it's registered as my default player, but I can not launch it through Skifta.

Meridian player also does it. Once you have andless / meridian installed, reboot the device. If it's registered an intent with your media databadse, it will look for FLAC content and the intent should work from Skifta next time you start it up. You might wish to start a new thread next time as this is the wish list thread ;-)

The contents are chosen by what is present in your Android media database - in short, the answer is 'not currently'.

A seek bar would be neat.

Where would you like the seek bar? Skifta uses the players you install on your device for video - and the system player for audio and those should all have seek bars?

I need to write a custom app for Android that uses DLNA - is there a way to get some Skifta libs to do that? Barring that can I call Skifta through intents and have my app keep control but Skifta pop up a little box saying what it's doing, "Getting library information" or something? And then my app can present the files like my customer wants? If not do you know of any DLNA libs for Android?

Skifta doesn't allow you to do that.. but this looks promising: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/bd9759837da73eca

Hi Conal,
Thanks for the reply. It did look promising, but I couldn't find all the source. So I'm trying another approach, writing an app to authenicate a user and then launching Skifta based on that. I've gotten it to launch Skifta and go to the main screen, but I'd like to go straight to the video browsing screen, do you know some extra params I can put in the intent call to do that?
Intent intent = new Intent("android.intent.action.MAIN");
intent.setComponent(ComponentName.unflattenFromString("com.skifta.android.app/.HomeActivity"));
intent.addCategory("android.intent.category.LAUNCHER");
startActivity(intent); -

I'm very sorry RCUSA1, but this really isn't something we can advise on.

I think this may have been mentioned, but please oh please create a screen rotation for the Skifta Android app. I use it on a Kindle Fire and a Acer Iconia A500 and that really is the only thing missing IMHO.

I would like to see the Windows desktop client supporting multiple directories for media.
Background: My media system has 2 HDD with media (namely videos) stored on both that I wish to share but the desktop client will only allow me to select a single one to share.

Understood - as a work around in the meantime, you can use XBMC which supports multiple directories and use Skifta to 'shift' the media outside of your home network. Let me know if you need instructions on setting up xbmc to do this.
