PC appears offline

I have a 64 bit HP Touchsmart 300 PC running on Windows 7 Home Premium 5.1, build 7600. My phone is an LG Connect 4G and my carrier is MetroPCS. My internet connection is a cable connection through Charter. Modem/gateway is a Motorola SURFboard eXtreme Wireless Cable modem gateway model #SBG6580.

My PC always appears as offline. I have gone through all of my advanced sharing settings, and everything is turned on. Sometimes I am able to see the PC files on the phone and sometimes I cannot, but it always says that the PC is offline.

Right now, my phone tells me there are no media sources found, but on the PC it says I have two active connections to my phone, even though it says my PC is offline.

So to clarify here:
1) Local functionality (when device and computer is on the same network) always works fine.

2) Remote functionality is not working and you have followed all the steps at:

This is also a problem for me, and I have followed all of the steps listed. I'll give some information.

1. All my devices are connected via WiFi
2. My router is a Netgear VMDG280
3. I have tried restarting, disabling all my firewalls
4. I don't have proxies in place to my knowledge (I've never messed around with them)
5. My ISP is Virgin (UK) and I don't believe they filter content

Any help would be amazing, thanks.

EDIT: Local works great.

I use virgin and I know they do not block those ports, so I thought it might be an idea to investigate this point more fully.
Firstly, it's important to understand - in order for your desktop computer to be marked 'online' you must have a Skifta desktop client installed and there must be at least 'one' media server online. Skifta has it's own desktop media server built in that you can start by clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting 'start media server'.

I took a look at our logging.
"My Home Comp" HAS been connecting just fine - but then goes offline as indicated here:
"client is no longer connected"
and:
"Message client and underlying connection to peer is closed"
and:
"An error occurred sending the http message request / receiving the http message response"

1) we use ports 80, 90 and 100. There's no need to open any inbound ports. just don't block any outbound ports... is this the case? Can you check all of your firewalls for that because it appears that something genuinely *is* stopping that connectivity.
2) Which media server are you running?
3) What's the OS / version?
4) Do you have any adware blockers that might be causing an issue? Is there any logging you can look at?
5) Do you have any programs that might be killing that connection, such a s webservers that you've set up as proxies?

Virgin definitely aren't blocking this - the connectivity is definitely happening OK and then being taken down at your end...

Hello,

I've disabled both my router and firewall installed and tried running Skifta and got the same results. I forwarded ports 80, 90 and 100 for good measure through my router.

I honestly don't know of anything that could be blocking it, I don't really have anything on here that is unusual for the average PC.

I may need some clarification. I think I do have the desktop client you mention, but if there is another I should have instead I may need pointing to it.

In the preferences I have Enabled Media Server checked.

1) Disabling my firewalls didn't seem to work
2) Not too clear on this. Unaware that there are different ones to choose from
3) Windows 7 32bit Service Pack 1
4) Not to my knowledge
5) Not to my knowledge but I don't really know what to look for - only just dipped into this sort of thing recently

Thanks for the screen shot - if you select 'preferences' from that dialogue that you've shown, is 'use media server' checked on, or off?
If it's off, can you check it 'on' and the stop and start the skifta service again?

Yes - check that skifta desktop is started, check the media server is running (which you've now done) and then log in at http://www.skifta.com and click 'my connections'.

1)Does your device show as being online?
2)On your local network, does the skifta media server show up as a media source on your mobile phone when you select '1) Choose a media source'?

It is still offline in my connections.

I can access it via my local network.

It may be worth noting that I have tried another Upnp server and it seems to be able to access the Skifta media server (as well as others).

I installed skifta several times trying to get it to work, its ok now but I have too many "places" how di I delete them?

gazwelly1 - send a mail to support@skifta.com and let them know the places you want removed. We're adding functionality so you can do this yourself.

Pugitlamp - can you send a mail to support@skifta.com detailing the whole issue and process and they will address it.

So I'm running into about the same issue here. What I have going currently is a pc setup in the living room running XBMC.

-I have Skifta installed on that computer. I do have the media server enabled through Skifta in the task bar. (As well as XBMC media server, also tried just Skift and disabled XBMC to see if they were competing for connection)

-I forwarded my ports 90 and 100, it wouldn't let me do 80 though since "the specified port(s) are being used by other configurations. Please check your configurations of Remote Management, Port forwarding, Port Triggering, UPnP Port Mapping table, RIP, and Internet connection type".

-When I log on to "My connections" via the skifta website it lists my 2 sources. I can't click on them or anything so I assume they are considered offline.

-When I get on my android phone I can access everything through the "Here" souces, so everything that is connected to the same network. When I go to the "remote" sources it shows both my sources as offline.

-I did run into one oddity. When I went through Windows media player to allow streaming media I saw that it was already enabled from previous attempts. I see for media libraries listed. My main computer Apollo, XBMC media server, my phone which I had connected via WiFi, and my Skifta media server. The last 2 were not accessible stating that "before you can play items in this library you must first be allowed to access the library" even though I had already done that.

So my question is, should I take this straight to support@skifta.com , or am I missing something from http://forums.skifta.com/topic/remote-media-source-status-offline#post-2423
