I guess I&#39;m misunderstanding W7&#39;s transcoding abilities. All of the initial research on W7 forums led me to believe that W7 would perform on-the-fly transcoding to a format compatitble to the device.</p> <p>More research leads me to believe that this is specific to MCE devices, and that auto-transcoding to DLNA devices only happens on a &quot;push&quot; (sync to device) from W7. This prevents Win7 from performing the auto-transcode, since a DMC doesn&#39;t report the rendering capabilities of the player.</p> <p>WANTED: DMP (Digital Media Player) mode for Skifta running on a stock Android/Kindle Fire tablet which properly reports the Fire&#39;s rendering format capabilities to Win/7. This will allow Win/7 to trancode Android-unsupported formats/codecs/etc so that those of us with existing Windows media servers and LARGE media libraries can use the Fire as a display device without having to go through and re-code all of our existing media. </p>
