As I say, we use the android media database (we may be moving away from this). If you see an issue, might be worth googling that device and 'media database issues'.

Sadly with some 50+ videos on the phone at any one time (small and large files, does Skifta have a file size limit? A couple of my files are just over 2gb) this would be a time intensive exercise. For now I am reluctantly going to have to accept that Skifta will not work on my Optimus 2x for videos.

I definately put this down to a quirk of the phone (its a very quirky phone!) and not a problem with your software!

Thankyou for your time Conal. I will be re-installing Skifta as soon as I replace the phone!

P.S. Does anyone else with a LG Optimus 2X having Skifta working ok...as in Skifta finds your video files stored on the phone itself? It would be nice to know its not just me!

My expectation here is that moboplayer and co use their own scans. In any case, as I say, because these files are not getting added to your Android media database skifta is not displaying them. I'd have to inspect the device for myself, but my next port of call would be to move all the content off of the device and gradually re-add it to find out if there was some junk data in any particular file that is causing the issue.

Thanks again Conal. I have followed exactly what you have said.
1) Followed to the letter including full reboot. I didnt start Skifta after the reboot.
2) Instead I ran a rescan using Moboplayer which I already had installed. I still didnt run Skifta yet.
3)Instead I ran SD Rescan which I had already installed (and ran) after your last suggestion.

Now I tried Skifta...its still not seeing ANY videos on the phone. If files where not being added to the Android Media Database how does Moboplayer (and Imediashare) find all my videos?

I may have to put this down to a quirk of my mobile (I do think your software is probably fine!) which is a pity, considering I rather like Skifta.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So - This is definitely because these files are not getting added to your Android media database.
3 things to try:
1) Clear and rebuild your media database - it could be that there is an issue with some bad data:
Settings > Apps > All > media storage > force stop > clear data. Reboot device.
2) The intents for those media files are not getting added to your device. Install one of the recommended players and rescan your content. For instance, rockplayer lite, moboplayer, qqplayer, dice player.
3)And have you tried running sd rescan? It's a free app from the market place.

Additionally, it could be that something is causing

Thankyou for the reply Conal. To answer your questions..
1) Yes I have mostly MP4 files amongst my many files. Some are avi, some flv, even an MKV file or two but I dont really expect those to work. (the phone does support MKVs natively up to certain profiles). Skifta on my HTC Desire has always picked up all the files that the Desire natively supported...which wasnt many! But the LG natively supports a much wider range of files. My point, however, is that Skifta on my LG Optimus 2X doesnt see ANY video files whatsoever. Even files that have been on the phone for months. And IMediaShare seems to manage ok...but i'd much rather use Skifta!

and 2) The phone is fully rebooted once a day. Otherwise it can suffer from slowdown after a while!

Any ideas?

Right - Skifta uses the android media database, so this is because your media scanner has not picked up your movie files.
1) Do you have any mp4 files amongst those?
2) Have you run the media scanner (by rebooting the phone or using the free app 'sd rescan')

Understood - as a work around in the meantime, you can use XBMC which supports multiple directories and use Skifta to 'shift' the media outside of your home network. Let me know if you need instructions on setting up xbmc to do this.

And also just to be clear the videos are stored in a number of folders on the both the memory card and a small number in the phone memory. No folder contains more than 20 videos. and the videos are in lots of common formats, avi, mp4 etc. Skifta doesnt even see the folders.

This is odd as I am not trying to find videos on a server but on the actual phone itself!

I have an LG Optimus 2X running stock Android 2.3.
I have videos of various different formats stored on my memory card and on phone storage. The phone natively supports all of the videos I have stored.

Whilst other dlna apps see all of the videos the phone natively supports (eg Imediashare) Skifta isnt seeing any of my videos at all, reporting "No Media Found". In the Media Server settings menu Skifta is set to allow photos, videos and music. Skifta sees all my music and photos fine. Updating the app hasnt helped.

I have used Skifta on an HTC Desire without any bother and I like the app. I would like to use it on this mobile too.

You are very welcome Conal. and Yes, I left a 5 star rating :) I'm an avid reader/writer/photographer and really loved how easy the app was. When sitting in the park, reading an emotobook, I would randomly just take pictures of my surroundings. This app helps me spread it throughout my networks with ease and also organize the pics. Very Great!

On the handset, open Skifta.
a)Choose a media source of your choice (handset is a good starting place).
b) Select a media player > Play on unlisted player
c) Browse from the PS3 looking for the skifta device on your network to view your content.

Bear in mind that DLNA Support for the PS3 is well documented on the web.. so any issues with DLNA you will be easily able to google.

The Skifta team at MWC mentioned a release of July/August.
The streaming app's on Ipad 2 - the free ones are great but lots of the functionality is missing until you get the paid versions.. I use imedia connect but you need the paid version to do the best bits. It does work very well with Skifta..
So, keep your eyes peeled for announcements in July / August.. or you can subscribe to our product updates thread to get an email when it goes live!!

Hello! Glad you got the update (1.05). It's a mystery to us though... we haven't released the rotation feature in 1.05.. it's coming in our next major release. My suspicion is that you've received an a500 fragment rotation feature which does the best it can to reorient apps.. In any case, our own version of this is in our next major release.

Can somebody PLEASE help me? I have no idea how to connect my PS3 to my Samsung Galaxy S2 (running ICS) using Skifta. I have downloaded Skifta to my phone and have also created an account. I know that my PS3 won't automatically show up on my phone. What do I need to do exactly in my PS3 options to connect it to my phone? If you could give me simple instructions it would be greatly appreciated as I am not very good with this kind of stuff. Thank you.

Hi

I am a big fan of skifta on Android but have not been able to find skifta on ipad2.

Any timeline on when skifta will be supported on ipad?

Any other DLNA alternatives for ipad2? The free versions of the ones I tried are useless to stream videos and photos from my DLNA NAS server.

Thanks
Rajeev
